Chiefs beat SuperSport to secure second win of the year

Kaizer Chiefs have registered their second win of the year as they edged SuperSport United 2-1 in a DStv Premiership tie at the New Peter Mokaba on Saturday evening.

Both teams came into this weekend’s clash after losing their previous games. Amakhosi suffered a 1-0 loss to Richards Bay FC in Durban, whereas SuperSport succumbed to a home defeat at the expense of Chippa United in Tshwane.

While Chiefs sealed a victory and three important points, SuperSport United extended their winless streak to 11 DStv Premiership matches on the trot.

PLAYING ON A SPECIAL DAY IN THE CITY OF POLOKWANE

The Chiefs and SuperSport showdown took place on a special day for South Africa. On this day, 27 April, the country is celebrating 30 years of democracy.

In celebration of 30 years of democracy, the city of Polokwane hosted a marathon earlier in the morning, with Chiefs taking part in the marathon on the day.

CHRISTIAN SAILE AND MDUDUZI SHABALALA SCORE FOR KAIZER CHIEFS

Chiefs started the game on a front, putting pressure on the visitors, forcing them to commit errors and capitalise on them.

In the 19th minute, Christian Saile broke the deadlock for the hosts. But Terrence Dzvukamanja levelled matters in the 53rd minute from a spot kick.

However, in the 76th minute, Mduduzi Shabalala added to the scoreline for Chiefs. Saile and Shabalala’s goals were enough to earn Chiefs the maximum points.

FANS TURN OUT

People of Polokwane came out in numbers to support Amakhosi despite having lost three of their last league games. The fans’ abundant roars and rumbles in the stands were just priceless when Chiefs took the lead.

Amakhosi fans were happy as their team secured maximum points to improve their position on the log standings. The side is fighting for a top-eight finish.

OTHER RESULTS

In another league fixtuure of the day, AmaZulu FC defeated Chippa United 2-1 at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Goals from Tshepang Moremi and Hendrick Ekstein earned Usuthu the much-needed victory. Sinoxolo Kwayiba scored the only goal for the Chilli Boys.

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch FC continued with their fine form as they humiliated Polokwane City with a 5-0 scoreline in Cape Town. It was Iqraam Rayners’ show as the Stellies frontman scored all five goals for his side on the day.
