Komphela backs Arrows forward to represent Bafana in future

Golden Arrows coach Steve Komphela has championed his striker Lungelo Nguse for a future call-up to the South African national team, Bafana Bafana.

Following Golden Arrows’ 0-0 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns, Komphela was asked about Nguse’s performance and his potential for future international selection.

With a cautious approach, Komphela expressed his belief in Nguse’s capabilities, saying he’s got almost everything needed in a striker and has the potential to serve the nation.

He commended him for troubling Sundowns’ seasoned centre-backs in Mosa Lebusa and Mothobi Mvala. In fact, Mosa Lebusa received a red card for a last-man challenge on Nguse, who was one of the stand-out performers in the match.

Nguse has scored six goals in 22 matches he has played across all competitions in his first season in Arrows colours. He joined the club at the beginning of the season after parting ways with AmaTuks.

STEVE KOMPHELA SAYS SAYS LUNGELO NGUSE HAS POTENTIAL TO DON BAFAN SHIRT IN FUTURE

“I’m very careful about those but I love the question,” said Komphela.

“And I’m tempted to say yes. If I were to say that…I said the same about Mabasa, I said the same about a whole lot of other players but it came up around as misunderstood.

“But I think looking at this Nguse kid, he’s something else. He gave big boys trouble here and you see Lebusa must have felt him, Mvala must have said, ‘Okay who’s this one? Number 40 Nguse’.

“So, based on that, I would agree with the question, he’s got ability. He’s 26, you know in South Africa, we say you’re still young but he should be playing.

“It’s good to have that, you have Nguse, you have Mabasa, you have whoever, whoever. Let them raise their hands, but he’s got ability.

“All I can say is positioning, top, from a physical point, strong, technically, finishes, mentally, he’s clued up, he’s a humble guy.

“So, all these areas where you say what do I want from the striker from a technical point of finishing, he’s got. From the mindset, is he a calm person? Does he recognise moments in the game? He’s got all that you need.

“We can only help him elevate his confidence, he’ll be something else for South Africa.”
