Ajax Cape Town are looking to accumulate as many points as they possibly can to start with their celebrations to the the lucrative ABSA Premiership next season, those are words from club head coach Calvin Marlin.
The ‘Urban Warriors’ are now 7 points clear at the top of the GladAfrica Championship after a narrow 1-0 victory over TS Galaxy yesterday afternoon, thanks to a 89th minute goal from defender Tendo Mukumela.
Ajax made only 1 change from their starting line up that lost 1-0 to neighbours Cape Umoya in their previous game, with club top scorer Abednego Mositlhaga returning in place of Dutch winger Istvan Bakx.
New signing Rooi Mahamutsa was an unused substitute on the bench for his new club as he awaits to make his official debut for the ‘Urban Warriors’.
The Cape side have now collected 48 points in 24 League games this season, and club head coach Calvin Marlin says the sooner his side picks up the points, the better better.
“Typical, any team that comes here in Cape Town they want to sit back, close the lines and catch us on the counter. We created a lot of chances that I think we should have gone into the lead in the first half, which makes life a little easy.
“We must just keep getting our points, I’m not worried about other teams they can do what they want. They could keep winning their games, as long as we win our games we don’t have to worry about them,” he said.
“We must keep focusing and not say now we have a 7 points lead and now we can relax, there’s no such thing. The quicker we can wrap this League up the better for us, the quicker we can get those wins, the early we can win this League then we can celebrate. We just have to keep the momentum high, keep the boys in good spirit and believe that yes we are going to win this League,” added the Ajax Coach
Up next for Ajax Cape Town is a home fixture against 10th placed Richards Bay on Saturday 21 March at Athlone Stadium 15:30pm.
