Hosts of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon have announced that the tournament has been moved from its original dates to January.
The tournament was scheduled to take place in June and July but was changed because of the unfavourable weather in the country at that time of year.
Following a meeting on Wednesday with representatives from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) tweeted:
“The AFCON 2021 will be played in Cameroon from January 9 to February 6, 2021. Dates changed for meteorological reasons at the request of Cameroon” Read the statement.
Cameroon had been scheduled to host the 2019 Cup of Nations, but were stripped of that honour in November 2018 with Egypt taking over.
At the time, CAF said the decision had been made because of delays in the progress of Cameroon’s preparations.
