Bittersweet moment for Ghana as they bow out of FIFA World Cup

Ghana have crashed out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup following their 2-0 defeat to Uruguay in their last group stage clash at Al Janoub Stadium on Friday evening.

The man who has been headlining football news publications in recent days, Luis Suarez saw his heroics going down the drain as a victory over the West Africans was not enough for his country, with both nations being knocked out of the prestigious tournament.

One can say the Black Stars of Ghana died with their enemies like Samson in the bible.

SUAREZ BURSTS INTO TEARS

Uruguayan forward Giorgio de Arrascaeta played a significant role for his nation having scored a brace in the first half of the showdown and concluded that those two strikes will send them to the promised land.

But at the end of the day, he was in tears together with his goals assist king Suarez following the final whistle.

The Uruguay, Ghana clash was seen as a match to renew rivalry after the 2010 handball incident caused by Suarez.

The ex-Atletico Madrid frontman blatantly saved a shot with his hands to stop the ball from going into the net, a goal that would have led the Black Stars to the semifinals of the 2010 World Cup held in South Africa.

He [Suárez] was then sent out to take an early shower for deliberately preventing the ball with hands in the World Cup quarterfinal encounter, and a penalty was given to Ghana which the former Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan failed to convert.

The game went on to end with a 4-2 scoreline on penalties in favour of Uruguay after 120 minutes following a 1-all draw in regulation time.

Meanwhile, In another result of Group H, Korea Republic came back from behind to salvage a 2-1 victory over group winners Portugal to cruise their way into the last 16.

Korea Republic and Uruguay finished with a zero goal difference in Group H, but the Asian side scored a high number of goals [four goals] as compared with the South American side who only managed to score just two goals.

FANS REACT TO GHANA AND URUGUAY CLASH

One fan tweeted: “Sad Ghana didn’t make it — but at least the consistent bad behaviour of Uruguay’s football team finally caught up with them.

The other said:” Ghana is a shameless team despite needing only a point and having all the opportunities to get ahead they buckled under the pressure. It’s heartbreaking that a youthful side like Ghana has been eliminated and they have a huge hand in it. ATROCIOUS PERFORMANCE!!!

One follower added: “Karma finally work and this time it’s not what we expected it to be. But it’s so sweet seeing Suarez cry like a baby.”
