Larsen unhappy despite Magesi securing PSL status

Despite Magesi securing their Motsepe Foundation Championship status for the upcoming season, coach Clinton Larsen remains an unhappy man.

Magesi are one of the 10 teams in the National First Division who are out of danger of a possible relegation.

The other teams are, Cape Town Spurs, Casric Stars, and Polokwane City, are fighting for promotion to the DStv Premiership.

They are joined by Hungry Lions FC, All Stars, JDR Stars, Uthongathi, AmaTuks and Pretoria Callies.

WHY CLINTON LARSEN IS AN UNHAPPY MAN

But despite achieving the feat with three matches to go Larsen says they don’t want to be known as a mid-table team.

“The main priority was to keep the team up because we all know what happened in 2016,” he said.

“By doing so it just means that there is growth. It means that we have learned from previous lessons but still as a club we are not happy that we are a mid table team so to speak.

“We are more ambitious than that. As management, as coaches, we want the players to have the same mentality to strive for more and not settle for doing okay.

So, that’s the mentality and the mindset we are trying to change amongst the players.

“But we must also applaud them, it’s been a difficult season with limited resources and a newly promoted team with a lot of challenges but we don’t make excuses.”

NOT READY TO TALK ABOUT CLASH WITH MAGESI FANS

Earlier this year, the Magesi fans expressed their unhappiness with Larsen after a string of poor results.

This resulted in them baying for his blood after a league encounter against Black Leopards. But the 52-year-old tells FARPost the incident is water under the bridge and he doesn’t want to dwell much on it.

“No, it’s not something that I want to talk about,” he said.

“These things happen for me. I just focus on my players and make sure that they are in the best shape possible.

“They are in the right mindset; what happens outside of the training field is out of my control. So that’s not something that I even want to speak about.”

Magesi will host Baroka in a Motsepe Foundation Championship Limpopo derby at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
