Mamelodi Sundowns confirm Andile Jali exit

Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed via a statement that they have parted ways with midfielder Andile Jali.

“The contract between Mamelodi Sundowns and Andile Ernest Jali which was due to conclude at the end of the current season, has been terminated by mutual consent,” said the DStv Premiership champions.

Jali is leaving the Tshwane giants after five campaigns of service. He had joined the club in 2018 from Belgian side KV Oostende.

During his Sundowns stint; marred by controversy in the end, Jali played in 142 matches, scoring four goals and providing three assists.

The 33-year-old was a key member of the Sundowns side and at some stage he was handed the captain’s armband. Jali won five league titles, three under the club’s former coach Pitso Mosimane.

Jali, deemed one of the most decorated players in the PSL, clinched all the domestic trophies on offer in SA’s topflight: Nedbank Cup, MTN8 and Telkom Knockout at Chloorkop.

However, he fell out of favour with his coach Rulani Mokwena a few months ago. This came after reports stated that he came to training at Sundowns under the influence of alcohol.

As a result of the alleged misbehaviour, Jali was suspended by the club’s management.

It has been said that Jali was unhappy under the leadership of Mokwena with the former Bafana Bafana international playing his last game for Sundowns in February. The clash was in the Nedbank Cup against Richards Bay FC.

“The influential player was part of two domestic treble winning Sundowns teams. He achieved the same feat before he joined the club,” added Sundowns in a statement.

“We thank Andile for his contribution and wish him well for the future. The Club and it’s supporters will fondly remember his performances for Ka Bo Yellow.”

Furthermore, Jali’s next destination is likely to be in the PSL as reported by FARPost.

The club leading the race to sign Jali is Stellenbosch FC, who have already contacted the player and his agent Mike Makaab.
