Al Wahda and Al Ahli Saudi: Pitso Mosimane compares the two clubs

Al Wahda FC coach Pitso Mosimane has compared the standard of football of his current club and former employers Al Ahli Saudi.

Mosimane made a switch to UAE from Saudi Arabia ahead of the new 2023/24 campaign after awakening the ‘sleeping giant’ by gaining promotion to the Saudi Pro League.

Despite his successes, the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach decided to leave his post at the end of the season and search for new challenges elsewhere.

PITSO MOSIMANE ON DIFFERENCES BETWEEN AL WAHDA AND AL AHLY SAUDI

According to Mosimane, with Al Wadah he has an opportunity to work with world-class players as they are in the top tier unlike with Al Ahli Saudi who were playing in the second tier at that time.

“Football in Abu Dhabi let me say UAE it’s very different from where I was in Saudi. In Saudi I was in the first division now we are in the Premier League,” said Mosimane.

“So the quality of the players with the foreign players is way bigger. I think you know Allan played for Everton, who’s playing in the midfield.

“You have a chance to have players who played at the highest level. You will always find big names there in that space, [Andrés] Iniesta still has the touches.”

PITSO MOSIMANE SAY EXPECTATIONS AT AL WAHDA ARE HIGH

Mosimane says expectations are high at Al Wahda as he’s aiming to win the league after finishing third last campaign.

The club have gone over a decade [13 seasons] without winning the league. The last time they were crowned champions was back in 2009/10 season.

“It’s a bit different now, here the expectations are high. We’re supposed to win the league, the team came third last time,” he added.
