Two DStv Premiership offers on table for Siyabonga Mbatha

Former Golden Arrows goalkeeper Siyabonga Mbatha has two DStv Premiership offers on the table as he continues to search for a new club.

The 34-year-old shot-stopper is still clubless after parting ways with Abafana Bes’thende when the current season started. The club had already played two games of the 2023/24 campaign when Mbatha departed.

According to what was gathered by this website, the goalkeeper wanted more minutes to play after having struggled somewhat to establish himself as a regular.

Last season, the former AmaZulu man played only six games both in the Nedbank Cup and league. And he was an unused substitute in 26 league games.

OFFERS FROM CAPE TOWN CITY AND CAPE TOWN SPURS FOR MBATHA

According to FARPost sources, Mbatha has offers from the two Western Cape clubs Cape Town City and Cape Town Spurs.

Spurs, who got promoted via the PSL Promotion Playoffs, have been struggling to compete in the top flight. They have lost all their eight opening games, leaving them in 16th position with no points in the bag.

One of their weaknesses has been in the goalkeeping department. They have conceded 17 goals while they have only scored five.

The Urban Warriors have also been chopping and changing three ‘keepers; Zama Dlamini, Neil Boshoff and Sam Ramsbottom.

On the other hand, the Citizens haven’t been solid in goals as they have let in eight goals while they have also scored eight in nine DStv Premiership games.

When Cape Town City played AmaZulu, Eric Tinkler benched his number one goalkeeper Darren Keet for Bongani Mpandle. However, the former Maritzburg United goalie conceded three goals in that game. And in the following match, Keet was back between the posts.

Further, Mbatha’s services were wanted by Maritzburg United last month but they seem to have failed to lure him to the Midlands. The Umlazi-born goalkeeper has yet to decide on his future. And it remains to be seen where his next destination will be.

OTHER PLAYERS WHO LEFT ARROWS

At the end of the previous season, Arrows also waved goodbye to Pule Mmodi and Saziso Magawana who joined Kaizer Chiefs and Marumo Gallants on free transfers, respectively.

Meanwhile, Devine Lunga and Ntsako Makhubela who spent last season on loan at the club, went back to their parent clubs.
