Cavin Johnson bullish on Chiefs’ chances of success in PSL

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson believes the Soweto giants are not far from ticking the right boxes to reclaim their glamour in the PSL

The interim coach endured a false start at the helm of Kaizer Chiefs, suffering a 2-1 defeat to Golden Arrows on Saturday in a DStv Premiership clash.

Knox Mutizwa’s brace was enough to rub more salt onto the Soweto giants’ wounds, with Sifiso Hlanti getting their consolation.

However as they are limping having been bullied in all competitions, the new man in charge, Cavin Johnson is sure the team is not far away from good fortunes.

WHAT CAVIN JOHNSON SAID ABOUT KAIZER CHIEFS’ FORTUNES

“I think the fortunes are there. If you have ever been to the Kaizer Village then you will know the fortunes are there,” said Johnson.

“It’s about taking the job that your chairman wants you to do and knowing you have done this before in your life, try to fix it off.

“I think I have a good group of people behind me. It’s not a Cavin Johnson showbiz.

“A lot of people are doing a lot of things to make sure we do better. No coach wants to have this kind of start. But we will work to improve and get better fortunes,” added Johnson.

The former Al Ahly assistant coach took over from Molefi Ntseki who was shown the exit door after nine matches.

Although he had assembled a team that looked formidable on paper, they hardly clicked on the field of play.

Ntseki took over as the Chiefs coach at the beginning of the season, with the mandate of delivering silverware. But the former Bafana Bafana coach sadly failed to deliver in all the competitions.

At the moment, the Soweto giants are far behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in the DStv Premiership. They missed out on the MTN8 Cup which was retained by Orlando Pirates.

Ntseki’s final blow was Chiefs’ shock exit from the Carling Knockout Cup where they lost to AmaZulu FC.

However, they can still work hard to finish in a respectable position in the PSL. But winning the league title is definitely a mammoth task.

They can only hope to salvage their pride in the Nedbank Cup, their only realistic chance of winning a cup title this season.
