Another PSL coach bites the dust

Another coach in the PSL has been shown the exit door following a poor run of form.

Several club owners in the PSL are known to be impatience and trigger-happy when the desired results are not coming their way.

Panic buttons have been pressed already, as a handful of coaches have been fired already in the early stages of the 2023/24 season.

Venda FC recently parted ways with Joel Masutha, while Delano Hendricks also left his head coaching position at NB La Masia. Ashwin Sutton was the third mentor to depart at a club as he left Casric Stars.

The latest coach to part ways with a club is Kwanele Kopo of Pretoria Callies. Kopo has stepped down after a below-par start to the season.

After 10 games, Callies are yet to pick a win in the new season as they are rooted at the basement of the second-tier league.

KOPO amicably PART WAYS WITH CALLIES

The Tshwane-based club is the only team in the league that is yet to register a win. Callies have lost three and drew seven matches.

FARPost has it on good authority that Kopo and the club amicably agreed to have him step down. The former SuperSport United academy mentor might remain in the club in another capacity, as revealed by our sources.

Kopo was nowhere to be seen near the bench as Callies made their way down to Mpumalanga on Wednesday, where they faced Casric Stars.

Callies’ struggles continued as they lost 2-0 to Stars at Solomon Mahlangu and the club’s team manager, Ndinae Nemulodi has given clarity on why the coach was absent on Wednesday.

Nemulodi insisted that Kopo is still in charge of the team.

“The coach has got the management’s support. So for Wednesday’s game, he was not feeling well, he was sick on the day,” Nemulodi told FARPost.

“If there is something, obviously, the team will communicate and confirm it, but now there’s nothing. The coach missed the match because he was sick.”

As things stand, assistant coach Machete Moloto, who was on the bench during their devastating loss against Casric, will be at the helm at the club going forward.

The club will be keen to put their winless run behind them as they face Platinum City Rovers this coming Sunday at TUT Stadium.
