CT City and SuperSport share spoils in the DStv Prem

Cape Town City FC and SuperSport United shared spoils on Wednesday evening in the DStv Premiership following a 1-1 draw at DHL Stadium.

Khanyisa Mayo and Lyle Lakay were on target for their respective teams scoring at each half. As a result both sides as still level on points, 31 each after 18 league matches.

Former Leicester City midfielder Khanya Leshabela started his first match for the Citizens. This was his second match in the SA topflight after making his debut against the same foe in the Nedbank Cup Last 32.

KHANYSA MAYO SCORES HIS NINTH GOAL OF THE SEASON

CT City’s in-form striker Khanyisa Mayo broke the deadlock in the 49th minute to hand his side the lead, thanks to an assist by Taahir Goedeman. This was Mayo’s third goal in a row in all competitions.

The Bafana Bafana international is three goals shy from his last season’s tally after he netted 12 goals. He finished as a top scorer level with Mamelodi Sundowns star Peter Shalulile.

SUPERSPORT UNITED CAN’T KEEP A CLEANSHEET

The Tshwane side has been struggling to keep a clean sheet in their previous matches. A draw against the Capetonians saw SuperSport fail to keep a clean sheet in 18 matches in all competitions.

The last time, Matsatsantsa didn’t concede a goal was back in September 2023 against Gaborone United in the CAF Confederation Cup, second preliminary round, second leg. In the encounter they won 3-0.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

The draw saw CT City fail to defeat SuperSport this season. The two sides were meeting for the third time following two matches; in the league and Nedbank Cup respectively. SuperSport claimed both victories winning 1-0 and 5-4 on penalties, after a 1-1 draw.

OTHER RESULTS

In another encounter played on Wednesday evening, Golden Arrows suffered their 10th loss in a row after losing 1-0 against Sekhukhune United at Mpumalanga Stadium in KZN.
