Billiat drops major hint about his Zimbabwe Warriors future

Khama Billiat has dropped a major hint that he might come out of international football retirement to represent The Warriors of Zimbabwe.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns star quit international football two months before the 2021 AFCON finals, which were staged in Cameroon.

His decision came as a shock having been one of the key players in The Warriors of Zimbabwe’s squad.

Billiat made his debut for Zimbabwe in March 2021 in a match they beat Mali 1-0. As his stock rose, the attacker went on to represent Zimbabwe in 51 games in all competitions. During that time, he scored 17 goals for the national team.

Billiat featured at the 2017 and 2019 AFCON finals, scoring in the later edition against Uganda in a group game.

And after returning to play in the Zimbabwean PSL, he gave a hint that he might come out of retirement.

The 33-year-old was unveiled by Yadah FC on Thursday after completing his move last week.

“I want to enjoy every minute of it. If everything is enjoyable, you never know. I’m not only saying.I love my country so much, and right now that I’m back home, I’m feeling so much loved.

“I can change anything. I can change my mind. So, I just want to hit the ground and enjoy everything like I said,” said Billiat.

YADAH OWNER AIMING TO CONVINCE BILLIAT

Meanwhile, Yadah FC owner Prophet Walter Magaya has also set sights on convincing Billiat to reconsider his decision.

“Well, the first thing is, he needs to play well and be wanted in the national team. But as far as convincing him is concerned, I’m very sure I can do so,” he told Zimbabwe’s Soccer24.

“Khama is a natural leader, and that leadership is still wanted in the national team if whoever will be the next coach sees it that way,” added Magaya.

“He [Billiat] is still an incredible player. His biggest advantage is the size of his body; he will certainly do well in our local Premiership.”
