SAFA eyeing Morena Ramoreboli for new role

The SA Football Association are eyeing highly-rated Jwaneng Galaxy head coach Morena Ramoreboli for a new role within the organisation.

Ramoreboli has been recommended by the technical committee of SAFA following his success in the Botswana Premier League and Bafana Bafana at the COSAFA Cup.

The Galaxy coach is being considered for the the SA Under-23 team job alongside Duncan Crowie, Pogiso Makhoye and Siyabulela Gwambi as his assistants.

The 43-year-old is currently in charge at Botswana Premier League side Jwaneng Galaxy.

SAFA technical director Walter Steenbok has told FARPost that the technical committee headed by Jack Maluleka will soon be engaging with Ramoreboli.

MORENA RAMOREBOLI TO TAKE OVER THE UNDER-23 COACHING JOB?

“The technical committee has already made a decision who are the coaches for the under 23. The recommendation that the technical committee has made was that Morena Morebudi will lead the under-23,” said Steenbok.

“He is going to be assisted by Duncan Crowie, Pogiso Makhoye and Siyabulela Gwambi. So those are four coaches who are going to be in the under-23.

“Even though we have not finalised the contract with him. But the NEC has decided that he will be the head coach,” he said.

“What is nice about this is that coach Duncan was with the under-17, even though this crop of players that he worked with at the under-17 are now in the under-20. So he has a better understanding of this crop.

“This crop will be the one that is coming in for the Olympics. So we wanted to maintain consistency and the knowledge of the players already who are coming through. All of these coaches are CAF A coaches, all four of them.”

SAFA LOOKING FOR CONTINUITY WITHIN THE NATIONAL JUNIOR TEAMS

Steenbok did not divulge if the negotiations would allow Ramoreboli to continue with his role at Jwaneng.

“We are hoping that the Chairman of the committee can start to engage,” he said.

“So that we can announce what the plan is moving forward in terms of the contracts and what we are looking for. But the Under 17 and under-20 coaches are already those who are going to be on a full-time basis.”

“We are hoping to sit down with him [Ramoreboli] as soon as possible. We are looking at the Under 23s and the COSAFA senior Men. Remember last year he was the coach that took that team to COSAFA.”
