SuperSport United slump: Hunt calls it worst of his career

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has labelled the club’s recent slump as the worst he’s encountered in his entire coaching career.

The Tshwane side has failed to win in its last six matches, including being eliminated from the Nedbank Cup by the high-flying Stellenbosch FC.

Hunt’s troops have gone 10 matches without a win in the DStv Premiership. Their last win came in December against Orlando Pirates

Matsatsantsa coach Hunt has admitted that the poor form has been frustrating for him and the side, but they will remain patient with the young squad they have.

RECENT SLUMP IN FORM FRUSTRATES SUPERSPORT UNITED HEAD COACH GAVIN HUNT

“Never, in my career in 30 years, yeah,” said Hunt when asked about SuperSport’s dismal run following the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Kaizer Chiefs in a league clash in Polokwane on Saturday.

“It’s very frustrating because you have a young group of players. Your seven DDC players playing there [versus Chiefs]. So you can scream and shout, but that’s the way the club is.

“That’s where we are going, and that’s what we are trying to do. So we got to learn a little but the hard way, but it’s very frustrating. But it is what it is,” he added.

GAVIN HUNT REMAIN CONCERNED ABOUT THE SQUAD DEPTH WITHIN THE MATSATSANTSA TEAM

The depth within the SuperSport squad remains a concern for Hunt, who says they have lost a lot of physical battles this season.

“We obviously have a very thin and young squad. We can have the hype in the beginning, but it’s going to go away eventually, and it’s important that we show faith and stick with them.

“Keep coaching them, keep working with them. But physically, we are getting outmuscled a lot in duels, and that’s pretty much what happened [against Chiefs].

“Obviously, you got to coach and just keep going. It’s very easy, I know where we had to go but it is what it is and we have to do a lot of development. A lot of coaching and a lot of work in the training ground.”
