Moseamadi hails De Reuck’s Maritzburg impact

Maritzburg United striker Judas Moseamadi has hailed the impact of his teammate Rushine de Reuck, adding he’s not surprised by the huge interest the latter is attracting.

In fact, Moseamadi says if the season were to be declared over, the 24-year-old defender would easily be his Maritzburg Player of the Season.

Before Covid-19 slammed the door shut on football, De Reuck was having an extraordinary campaign, starting all Maritzburg’s 24 league outings.

“Rushine de Reuck has stood tall in our defence, he has really been outstanding and I’d pick him as our best player this season,” Moseamadi said.

He believes the ex-Milano United man is the reason the Team of Choice has the joint second-best defensive record this season after conceding 17 goals from 24 matches.

Only star-studded Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played three games less, boast a better record after letting in 15 goals.

Log leaders Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits, are also on 17 goals, having played 22 and 21 matches respectively.

“He has been working very hard, there’s a lot of important tackles he’s made for us. He deserves it,” he added.

One of De Reuck’s most notable performances came against Amakhosi as he played a major role in helping the Pietermaritzburg side reach their first-ever Telkom Knockout final. He was also named man of the match in the next fixture against Amazulu, which ended in a goalless draw.

The lad who hails from Kalksteenfontein, Cape Town is fast establishing himself as one of the most dependable centre backs in the Absa Premiership. His ingenuity was duly rewarded in December when he signed a new 5-year deal.

De Reuck had a brief spell at Portuguese outfit Pacos de Ferreira’s B side between 2014 and 2015. He believes the experience gained during his short stint in Europe, under the tutelage of the current AS Roma coach Paulo Fonseca, has come in handy.

His Maritzburg gaffer, Eric Tinkler, tips him as a future national team player. De Reuck joined the Team of Choice two seasons ago, making 16 appearances across all competitions in his maiden season.
