Phete’s star rising in Portugal

Thibang Phete continued from where he left off, while Liam Jordan opened his scoring account for the season in Denmark.

THIBANG PHETE & LYLE FOSTER

The Portuguese Primeira Liga returned to action this past weekend and two South Africans went head to head as Belenenses defeated Vitoria Guimaraes 1-0 on Friday night.

Phete lasted 90 minutes and was named Man of the Match after yet another good performance for Belenenses.

He scored the only goal of the game in the 47th minute of the match. Foster also started, but was substituted after 63 minutes in his first official match for Guimaraes.

THABO CELE

The KZN academy graduate was introduced in the second half of the game as Cova Di Piedade defeated SC Covilha 3-1 to earn their first three points of the season. Last weekend Piedade started the season with a defeat at home against Mafra.

MAX MCMILLAN

The striker was a second half substitute for Leeds United U-23 as they played out to a 2-2 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers U-23 in the English Premier League 2 on Friday night.

SIYABONGA LIGENDZA

Ligendza started up front, but couldn’t help Cardiff City U-18 avoid a 3-1 defeat at the hands of their rivals Swansea City in the Welsh youth Derby.

DINO NDLOVU

Ndlovu came off the bench in the 55th minute of the game for Chinese second tier side Zhejiang Hangzhou Greentown in their 1-1 draw against Shaanxi Chang’an in the Chinese League one encounter on Saturday.

LIAM JORDAN

The former Bidvest Wits striker came on after 71 minutes and opened his scoring account for Danish 1st division side HB Koge who ran riot with a 4-2 victory against Kolding on Saturday.

The victory leaves Koge in 6th place with 6 points from the first three games of the season.

RICARDO SCHUTTE

The Rio Ave loanee got another 90 minutes under his belt for Spanish Segunda Division side CD Mirandes who drew 0-0 with Real Oviedo in the league. The draw leaves CD Mirandes in 12th position having earned 2 points from the first two games played so far in the league.

AYABULELA KONQOBE & DARREN SMITH

The duo was in action again for finish second division side Ekenas as they thrashed Kajaani 5-0 in the league.

Smith scored his 8th goal of the season while Konqobe could not add to his tally for the season, but will be happy with a victory.

BANTU MZWAKALI

The former Ajax Cape Town midfielder started and lasted 76 minutes for Swedish Superettan side IK Brage in their 1-1 stalemate with Dalkurd in the league.

Brage remains 6th on the log after 19 games played so far this season in the Swedish second tier. There are 11 games left for them to fight their way up with a hope of gaining promotion to the Allsvenskan.

PERCY TAU

The ‘Lion of Judah’ started and played the whole game in Anderlecht’s 4-2 victory over Waasland Beveren in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League on Saturday night.

The win takes Anderlecht up to 5th place on the table with 12 points earned from 6 games.

MAY MAHLANGU

Mahlangu was substituted in the 84th minute of the game as Ordabasy drew 1-1 away at Kaisar in the Kazakhstan Premier League on Sunday.

GEORGE MATLOU

After renewing his contract with A.D Sanjoanense last week the midfielder played the whole 90 minutes in the Portuguese Campeonato with Sanjoanense drawing 1-1 with S.Joao Ver.

GEORGE LEBESE

The winger was taken off in the 66th minute in Colorado Springs Switchbacks’s 2-1 win over New Mexico United in the USL Championship on Saturday morning. Lebese won a penalty.

TUMI MOSHOBANE

Moshobane was a 46th minute substitute for USL Championship side San Diego Loyal as they defeated Phoenix Rising FC 3-2 in the league on Sunday morning.
