Coach Motlale: Champion Foot Soldier

Share

The most decorated coach is by far Coach Edwin ‘Motlale’ Lisene, the former Bloemfontein Celtic mentor. This Mangaung-born coach has eclipsed Pitso Mosimane’s record of winning championships.

Today FARPost’s Technical Study Group (TSG) visited this serial winner in the women’s game.

1. Who is Coach Lisene?

Coach Edwin Lisene was born 07th May 1971 in Mangaung, Free State. He finished his schooling at the iconic Kaelang Secondary School, that famously produced the likes of Sello Nduna (Motsweding FM) and Simon Gopane (Bloemfontein Celtic Goalkeeper Coach).

Although he was a decent player, his passion was always coaching, and as such it was expected when he started Mangaung Ladies in 1985.

2. Birth of Celtic Ladies

Coach Lisene had already established an enterprising and maverick team of ladies footballers, when Bloemfontein Celtic management came calling.

In 2002, Mangaung Ladies became Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies, as Coach Lisene engulfed his energies to built a strong ladies team from the Free State Province.

3. Serial winner

Coach Lisene has captured numerous trophies and accolades over the last 10 years. The memorable successes include:

1. Winners of Amantobazane World Cup in 2010
2. Free State SASOL League Championship from 2008 to 2016
3. Sasol League 3rd Position in 2013
4. Winners of Sasol League National Championship in 2016/2017

6. Winners of Team of the Year in the Free State in 2018
7. Easter Tournament Free State Championship in 2016
8. Cell C Tournament Champs in 2008
9. Best Youth Team Free State 2013

4. Notable products

Some of the notable products from the work of Coach Lisene at both Mangaung Ladies and Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies, include:

1. Sannah Mollo
2. Shiwe Nogwanya
3. Melinda Kgadiete
4. Kgaelebane Mohlakoana
5. Nomonde Nomtsheke (USSA)
6. Zenhle Chabaku

5. Big dreams

The Coach is currently unattached to any football club. His intentions include forming a girls only academy and one day owning a team in the National Women’s League.

Given his success at Celtic and his bright mind, expect bigger and better things from this serial winner in the women’s game.
