It was a weekend of mixed results for our boys abroad with Kurt Abrahams and Luther Singh standing out.
Zungu had a bitter sweet day in France after the midfielder made his full come back from injury to play 90 minutes away at Montpellier, but couldn’t help Amiens avoid a 4-2 defeat in Ligue 1.
Mothiba’s good run of form came to an end in France after he couldn’t find the back of the net nor assist as Strasbourg lost 2-1 at home against giants Olympique Lyon.
Phiri was handed the captain’s armband for yet another day for EA Guingamp as they drew 1-1 at home against Caen.
Guingamp had an unfortunate moment after they had taken out the ball because a Caen player was down injured but when Caen had to do fair play they continued without doing it which then led to their equaliser.
In Germany, young SA winger Boipelo Mashigo who is going through the ranks of third tier side Unterhatching played 90 minutes for their U17 side in their 1-0 defeat against Karlsluher in the league. Mashigo who wears jersey number 10 is a regular and the star man for them.
Foster came on for the last 45 minutes for Cercle Brugge as they narrowly lost 2-1 in a very tight game against Standard Liege in the league to continue to sit bottom of the log. This was Foster’s first game since coming back from international duty with the U23s.
Probably SA’s best overseas-based player so far Abrahams continued to do great things in Belgium scoring his 8th goal of the season in KV Westerlo’s 1-1 draw against Virton. Abrahams is one of the stand out players in the whole division terrorising opposition defences week in and week out.
Mayambela lasted 82 minutes for SC Farense as they extended their lead at the top of the log with a 1-0 win over new boys GD Chaves to continue their unbeaten run in the league.
After missing out on action last week due to the international commitments Singh continued where he left out before that as he helped Moreirense run out 3-2 winners against Aves in the league to move up to 10th on the log. Singh now has 3 assists to his name to go with his 3 goals in the league so far this season.
