Chippa United head coach Norman Mapeza has highlighted the important role played by his good friend and fellow country man Kaitano Tembo of Supersport United when he first arrived in South Africa.
Mapeza and Tembo were once teammates in the Zimbabwean national team and when Mapeza joined the trigger-happy Chippa United from FC Platinum it was only sensible for Tembo to welcome his homeboy to the big league and help him settle in his new surroundings.
“Yeah we’ve been friends (with Tembo). We’ve been talking ever since I arrived here you know, the guy knows much about the PSL than me,” said Mapeza.
“He’s been here for nearly 20 years and he’s a former player of SuperSport and now into coaching so he knows much more what has been happening in the PSL than me.”
Mapeza’s midas touch has rejuvenated Chippa United who are now unbeaten in 5 league matches, winning 4 games and drawing just one, while picking up 13 points from a possible 15.
They’ve kept five clean sheets in a row, which has seen them move to 10th spot by the Christmas break.
