Bidvest Wits midfielder Thabang Monare will miss Bidvest Wits’ important clash against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) on Tuesday through suspension.
Monare who is a key player in the Wits side picked up his fourth yellow card of the season against Stellenbosch FC over the weekend and is set to serve a one-match ban leaving Gavin Hunt with a headache and question mark as to who will fill in that key central midfield role and battle it out with Andile Jali of Sundowns who is in good form.
“Yes obviously (we will miss Monare against Sundowns), that’s wherein the midfield is really tight and tough in there. We missed four key players against Stellenbosch, Terrence Dzvukamanja, Haashim Domingo, Elias Pelembe and Cole Alexander who have started for us every game and did well to get a result, take four players out of a top side and you will see where they are, said Wits Head Coach Hunt.
The Coach even went as far as saying that he might even play 19-year-old Rowan Human who is the current Multiple Choice Diski Challenge (MDC) top goal scorer with 10 goals.
Monare is one of the most consistent players in the league, a workhorse and a no-nonsense midfielder.
To show for his efforts he has won a couple of man of the match performance awards so far in the 2019/20 season with one goal and an assist in his 11 games for the Students. The 30-year-old was part of the Wits team that won the 2016/17 PSL title.
One positive for Hunt going into their encounter against the Brazilians at Loftus Versfeld Stadium is that he will be boosted by the return of Alexander and Domingo from suspension.
Wits have three games in hands and are 8 points behind log leaders Kaizer Chiefs while a win for Sundowns could see them close the gap between them and Chiefs to only a single point.
