Kaizer Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung has said that the club’s 50th anniversary is about educating South Africans about the great players they had and celebrating them.
Speaking on the SABC Morning Live Show, Motaung said, “It is also about going back to our history, if you look at our first ever jersey, the black with the gold accent is where we started and that’s what we have decided for our 50th, is to go back to our roots and go back to that gold and also because 50 is a year of celebrating gold and being a club from Johannesburg, the city of gold and having a cabinet of trophies.
“Reflecting but also looking into the future as we evolve. Part of the journey will be traveling into the continent because we are a continental brand, an African brand that really stands for so much so we will be doing a lot of work in the continent with our legends and the team,” she stated.
Motaung said that the Glamour Boys will be playing a number of friendlies with international clubs but didn’t reveal the names of the teams.
“We have international games planned, our legends will be playing games as well. We are launching a number of initiatives, it’s a bumper year. Watch the space, we will make some nice announcements.”
“We are very excited that we have a game on the 8th, a very significant one against Highlands Park who we have a history against but we wanted to come together with our supporters , we had 80 000 tickets and they are all gone.
“We look forward to some great festivities at the (FNB) stadium and we are going to be cutting cake, there will be entertainment. The year has been planned for a number of other activities,” added Motaung.
