When he won the Young African Footballer of the Year in 2017 after breaking into the scene with Zambia’s U-20 national team, Patson Daka’s star has since been on the rise for the past three years.
Although he was banging in goals and assists at the beginning of the 2019/20 season Daka lived under the shadow of Norwegian hitman Erling Haaland who is probably the best U-20 striker currently in world football.
After the departure of Haaland to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in January the Zambian striker became the main man up front for RB Salzburg and he did not disappoint.
With a total of 24 goals in 31 appearances last season Daka got the attention of some of the world’s biggest clubs who are all chasing his signature.
English Premier League clubs Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United are amongst the clubs vying for his signature with Liverpool the prime favourites to sign the 21-year-old.
Daka made a statement to Jurgen Klopp when he scored a brace last Tuesday in Salzburg’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool which might have been the game that will push Liverpool’s pursuit of the striker.
In France, Marseille, Lille and Lyon are also interested in the striker while in Germany, RB Leipzig are also looking to make him Timo Werner’s replacement after the striker left for Chelsea this winter.
It remains to be discovered where Daka will be playing his football next season, but at only 21 the striker has already proved his ability to play at the highest level of the game.
