ABC Motsepe League weekend wrap

There have been tears of joy and moments of sadness alike in the South African football third-tier over the weekend as we have witnessed other teams getting relegated, while others were in a jubilation mood after qualifying to the provincial playoffs in their respective provinces.

In Gauteng province, the final day of fixtures saw four teams being relegated, two per stream.

Stream A had Blue Lions and La Masia positioned 8 and 9 individually succumbing to the heat. Blue Lions was a newly revamped and rejuvenated team after a legend of the game Jerry Sikhosana bought it, but it was already too late to be saved.

AJ United and Maholosiane were casualties from stream B. United was not playing in the ABC for the first time but didn’t live up to the expectations, the pressure was too high to be handled hence they collected only 4 points from a whopping 16 games.

Umvoti FC cruised their way to the ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs for the third time in a row after defeating Real Kings on away goals rule. Both sides locked horns in two-legged encounters in the KZN ABC League playoffs.

De General FC and Mangaung Unite will face each other in the Free State ABC League playoffs to determine the overall provincial winner and representative in the nationals playoffs after they were confirmed winners of their streams.
