Abrahams scores first league goal in Belgium

It was a good weekend for Mzansi’s footballers abroad.

Kurt Abrahams broke his duck in Belgium while Gift Links scored his second league goal of the season in Denmark for AGF Aarhus.

KGAOGELO CHAUKE

 

The 17-year-old midfielder was introduced after 72 minutes for Southampton as they beat Leicester City U23 5-2 in the English Premier League 2.  

BRADLEY CROSS

 

Newcastle United’s U23s fought hard to beat Stoke City and Cross played the whole game in the left centre back role. In the past three games the coach has opted for a 3-5-2 formation and Cross has been one of the ever-present players at the back. 

SIYABONGA LIGENDZA 

He was handed the captain’s armband over the weekend, but he could not help the team avoid a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Charlton Athletic on Saturday afternoon. The striker played the whole game for the young ‘Blue Birds’. 

AKIEL RAFFIE 

Fleetwood Town U18s advanced to the next round of the FA Youth Cup and the South African midfielder was introduced in the 78th minute of the game as they beat Crystal Palace U18s 2-1 at home. 

ETHAN CHISLETT 

The attacking midfielder was a 70th minute substitute for AFC Wimbledon as they lost 5-2 against Charlton Athletic in the English League One. 

GIFT LINKS

The 22-year-old winger continued his form in the Danish Superliga as he scored a beautifully placed goal from close range to earn AGF Aarhus all three points away from home. Aarhus defeated Horsens 2-1 in the league on Sunday. 

TOM BARKHUIZEN 

Barkhuizen was a second half substitute for Preston North End as they lost 3-0 away at Luton Town in the English Championship. 

LIAM JORDAN 

HB Koge earned a point away from home and the South African youth international played every minute of the game for the visitors who are pushing for promotion to the Superliga next season. 

KURT ABRAHAMS 

Abrahams scored his first league goal of the season for KV Westerlo as they defeated Club Brugge U23 2-1 in the Belgian second tier on Friday night.  

Westerlo remain in third position on the log, but with yet another convincing win they have put themselves at a much better place on the log standings. 

THULANI SERERO 

It was yet another 90 minutes for the former Ajax Amsterdam midfielder, this time he even laid an assist as Al Jazira defeated Al Wahda 2-0 in the Arab Emirates Gulf League. 

BOIPELO MASHIGO 

The youngster got more minutes under his belt, this time he came on for the last 18 minutes as Unterhaching got a well-deserved 2-0 victory against Kaiserslautern. 

REFILOE JANE

 

Jane played the entire 90 minutes for AC Milan as they continued their good run of form in Serie A, this time they defeated Sassuolo 2-0 in the league on Sunday afternoon. 

THEMBI KGATLANA 

The Banyana Banyana attacker could not continue her form in the Spanish Primera Division after she was introduced in the second half of the game. Eibar suffered a 3-0 defeat away at Rayo Vallecano. 

KEAGAN DOLLY 

Dolly was a 79th minute substitute for Montpellier as they fought very hard to take maximum points with a 3-2 win against RC Lens in the French Ligue 1. 

BONGANI ZUNGU

 

‘Ben 10’ came on for the last nine minutes of the game as Rangers maintained their unbeaten run with a 2-1 victory against Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership. 

THABO CELE 

The U23 youth international was introduced after 72 minutes of the game as Cova di Piedade fought for 120 minutes only to fall in the dying minutes of the cup game against top-flight side Moreirense. 

Moreirense won 3-2 after extra time in the Portuguese Cup on Sunday afternoon. Piedade will now switch focus back to the Segunda Division. 

LYLE FOSTER

 

Foster was a 62nd minute substitute for Vitoria Guimaraes as they lost 1-0 against Santa Clara in the Portuguese Cup on Sunday. This was the striker’s first few minutes in weeks as he has been struggling to get game time at the club due to injuries.
