Following a 16-day hiatus due to the FIFA international break as well as domestic cup competitions, the Absa Premiership action returns tonight with three fixtures.
Mamelodi Sundowns v AmaZulu
The reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns take on AmaZulu at Loftus Stadium looking to reduce the points gap between them and log leaders, Kaizer Chiefs. A win for the Brazilians will take them to 21 points, 7 behind Amakhosi who are only in action on Wednesday against Stellenbosch. Usuthu desperately need the maximum points to move out of the relegation zone. They are currently second from bottom with 11 points from 11 matches. AmaZulu will be without Tapelo Xoki who’s suspended, while Sundowns will be without Gaston Sirino for the same reason.
Orlando Pirates v Polokwane City
Bucs, who have not had a decent start to the season, will welcome struggling side Polokwane City at the Orlando Stadium. Rise and shine who recently fired coach Zaltko Krmpotic are on a 6-game losing streak and it will be a huge task for interim coach Bernard Molekwa to grab the points against the Buccaneers who are also desperately looking to move out of the bottom half of the table. Pirates are 9th with only 3 wins in their 11 matches, 15 points behind Chiefs. Pirates will be without the services of captain Happy Jele who is on the suspension list.
Highlands Park v Bidvest Wits
In another League clash tonight Highlands Park will host Bidvest Wits at Makhulong Stadium. The Lions of the North have only lost twice this season (against Chiefs and Pirates) and a win against the Students would take them as high as 3rd place. Wits have played less matches than anyone this season (7) and remain one of the teams for the title this season. A win for the students will take them closer to the front runners Chiefs who have played 4 games more. Marks Munyai is suspended for the match.
