United Kingdom publication The Sun reports that Italian club AC Milan are chasing the signature of Wilfried Zaha in January. The club believes that the Crystal Palace star can fire them to a first Italian title in ten years.
The giants currently sit top of the Serie A table and are looking to add more firepower up front as they bid to win a first Scudetto since the 2010/11 season. Since that season things have gone from bad to worse for one of Italy’s most successful clubs, but this season looks different as they have been dominant.
Zaha, 28, has impressed in a more central role for the ‘Eagles’ this season and is on course for his best ever goal scoring campaign. In 14 games played the Ivorian has netted eight goals and assisted two more strikes. His latest goal came in a 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Monday – his previous best tally was back in the 2018/19 campaign where he scored 10 goals.
Milan see the former Manchester United attacker as someone who will be a great addition to a squad that could potentially end Juventus’ nine-year dominance in Italy. The ‘Rossoneri’ are said to have been impressed with his switch to the centre and his goal record, especially given the relative lack of quality around him.
Christian Benteke, on three goals, is the only other Palace player with more than one Premier League goal this season, although Eberechi Eze has starred since arriving, he has been the more creative attacking player so far. They (Milan) are not concerned with his age, instead seeing a player in his prime and ready to contribute immediately. Coach Stefano Pioli views the Ivory Coast international as the missing piece of the puzzle, but while interest from the Italian club is strong, any potential deal is in its very early stages.
Over the past few seasons, the 28-year-old has been linked with a move away from Selhurst Park with clubs like Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton all having shown interest in his services, but nothing materialised.
Roy Hodgson will also be desperate not to lose his main man in January, with his side going down the table after a good start to the season.
