Ahead of their blockbuster fixture in the Absa Premiership, Maritzburg United coach Eric Tinkler believes his side has a psychological edge over Usuthu.
The KwaZulu Natal derby takes centre stage this weekend as the Team Of Choice firing from all cylinders host a struggling AmaZulu side at Harry Stadium on Friday evening (20:00).
Tinkler says his team will be seeking to take full advantage of the situation Usuthu currently find themselves in.
“Obviously us being at home we must ensure we dictate terms at home, psychologically I guess we have a certain edge against them because of the way they find themselves in the league but you can’t be taking that for granted,” reiterated the former Bafana Bafana midfielder.
Tinkler warned his players that AmaZulu are a wounded animal who will be looking to turn their fortunes around by collecting maximum points and getting the bragging rights in the KZN derby against his Maritzburg side.
“They wanna see themselves getting out of that situation that they find themselves in and the only way to do that is by coming here and performing and getting a result and we’ve got to ensure that we don’t allow that to happen because we have our own targets and our own objectives you know this season and obviously we wanna try and get as soon as possible to those targets,” said the former Orlando Pirates mentor.
Maritzburg are placed on 7th position on the log standings and a victory could see them move above 6th placed Bloemfontein Celtic and further strengthening their grip on a top 8 finish.
Meanwhile, Amazulu are in 14th position and a positive result away from home can see them enhance their chances of steering clear away from the danger zone.
