Despite signing only a two-year contract with Al Ahly, SA coach Pitso Mosimane may stay longer at the club.
In an interview on Al Ahly’s platforms, owner Mahmoud El Khatib touched on a number of issues, including the head coach position, which is occupied by Mosimane, who was announced as Al Ahly’s new coach on September 30.
El Khatib hinted that “Jingles” could be in Cairo for sometime.
“The change in managers was due to special circumstances such as the COVID-19 pandemic, which was behind the departure of Rene Weiler. Therefore, we signed Pitso Mosimane, who we consider as a long-term project for the future,” confirmed El Khatib.
Mosimane would be pleased to receive the club’s backing especially after helping the Red Devils complete a treble, having take over from Weiler and finishing the job.
El Khatib added: “I would like to thank Al Ahly fans, who are the club’s main driving force. I knew that we will win the 9th CAF Champions League title when I saw the great support that they gave to our players in Al Ahly’s match against Mamelodi Sundowns last season at home
“After beating Mamelodi Sundowns (in the quarterfinals), I had the feeling that we will win the title. I thanked God after defeating Zamalek, as the victory came following a lot of stress and pressure.”
