Ajax aiming for four wins to seal title

Ajax Cape Town boss Ari Efstathiou says their intention when they resume their GladAfrica Championship campaign is to win their first four matches in order to breathe a sigh of relief and gain automatic promotion back to the Absa Premiership.

‘The Urban Warriors’ will restart their pursuit of the 2019/20 GladAfrica Championship title against Richards Bay on Wednesday afternoon at the Rand Stadium Kick-off at 15:00.

“There will be a lot of challenges going into these games, shortage of players, lots of injuries, fatigue, you can’t keep playing the same starting 11,” Efstathiou said told the South African Football Journalists’ Association (SAFJA) Efstathiou.

Ajax were relegated to the lower division at the end of the 2017/18 season and Efstathiou insists that 12 points from their last six games will take his side back to South Africa’s top-flight.

“Twelve, that’s the guarantee number. I think 12 points will give us 19 points ahead and the most anybody else can is 18, that’s what we need, nothing less than that and the earlier we get them the better it is.

“That is what we are aiming for four wins and in the first four games, that’s what we have targeted,” added the Ajax boss.

The Cape Town-based outfit is seven points ahead of three teams, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) in second place, Uthongathi FC, in third spot and Swallows FC in fourth place.

“We’ve got to assume everybody else will win their game,” concluded Efstathiou.
