Mamelodi Sundowns will head into their crucial CAF Champions League quarterfinal encounter against Al Ahly without some of their key players due to injury.
Tebogo Langerman, Anele Ngcongca, and Thapelo Morena have all been ruled out of the Sundowns – Al Ahly clash on Saturday evening at Cairo International Stadium.
However, Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane says they have a plan.
“Unfortunately, I don’t have Anele [Ngcongca] for that match. It’s not nice and I don’t have Thapelo [Morena] for the right-back position. We will miss Thapelo’s speed. But I will make a plan,” Mosimane said.
“But it’s not going to be Nico [Nicholus Lukhubeni]. The boy is still young, coming up. “We will see and probably play Madisha [as right-back]. [Tebogo] Langerman is not ready.”
Despite playing against Bloemfontein Celtic in their most recent League game, veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango is a doubt for Saturday’s clash. “Onyango still has that dodgy hamstring, “added Mosimane.
Onyango pulled a hamstring in Sundowns’s 3-0 victory against Chippa United in an Absa Premiership game on Saturday (15 February). But played the full 90 minutes against Celtic six days ago.
The two African club football giants last met in the same stage [quarterfinal] during the 2019 season of the CAF Champions League season where Sundowns hammered Al Ahly 5-1 on aggregate.
Revenge will be on the cards for Al Ahly on Saturday in Cairo. Kickoff at 18:00.
