Ahead of the much-awaited CAF Champions final between Al Ahly and Zamalek, six players have tested positive for COVID-19.
The results of the COVID-19 tests conducted under the supervision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Al Ahly and Zamalek players came back with bad news for the Egyptian clubs as three players from both sides tested positive.
Zamalek players who have tested positive for the deadly virus are Abdallah Gom’aa, Youssef Obama and Mahmoud Hamdy El-Wensh.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils’ players Walid Soliman and Saleh Gom’aa had contracted the infection earlier and still have the virus in their system. Pitso Mosimane’s side suffered another blow as key midfielder Aleo Diang also tested positive.
Al Ahly and Zamalek will lock horns at Cairo International Stadium on Friday behind closed doors.
This comes after Africa’s football governing body released an official statement that they have decided to play the game behind closed doors following much deliberation with the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) despite the fact that it was announced earlier this week that CAF had agreed to allow fans at the stadium.
