David Alaba has reached an agreement to join Real Madrid on a free transfer at the end of the season.
He was free to talk to any club across Europe once he reached the final six months of his current deal, which was at the start of January.
He is expected to sign a four-year deal with the Spanish champions in the next few weeks.
Alaba will go to Madrid having turned down offers from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain. Bayern also made three separate contract extension offers, but the player has made up his mind and wants a new challenge.
In Alaba, Madrid will have a big asset as the 28-year-old can play in several positions in defence. He can play at centre back, left back, and in the central defensive midfield role.
Since joining Bayern’s academy from Austria Wien in 2008, he has won nine league titles and two Champions League trophies.
When he arrives at the La Liga side, the Austrian will earn 11 million Euros annually – only Eden Hazard, Sergio Ramos and Toni Kroos will earn more.
Alaba has made a total of 264 German Bundesliga appearances since making his debut back in 2010. Bayern Munich currently sits on top of the log standings with 36 points after 16 games and winning the title would be a perfect send off for one of their long-term servants.
