Former Sekhukhune United Technical director Alex Bapela has been officially appointed as head coach of Limpopo ABC Motsepe League side, Ditlou FC.
The 52-year-old recently parted ways with Sekhukhune after being part of the club since their days in the ABC Motsepe League.
He has now been tasked with leading the ambitious side from Mmakgatle, Sekhukhune district, owned by businessman Mash Maila, into the promotion playoffs at the end of the season.
“I have known Maila for quite a long time so since I was no longer at Sekhukhune, he asked me to assemble a team for him,” said Bapela.
“In fact, it’s by default that I ended up as coach here because it was just a matter of assembling a squad just like I assembled Sekhukhune. But then realising that they didn’t have a coach I said why not take the responsibility since I am also not employed as far as coaching is concerned. Coaching is in the blood once you start coaching, you start enjoying and you continue doing it.
“I have never worked in this league for a long time and the season has not started. The only thing I can do now is to train them so that they are fit and ready. But it’s different to train and play so when the league starts that where we will see their readiness but I think they are ready,” he said.
The Limpopo ABC Motsepe League is expected to start with the Nedbank Cup qualifications taking place on the weekend of 16/17 October.
