The January transfer window is around the corner and many coaches in the Premier Soccer League are ecstatic and understandably so as this gives them an opportunity to improve their squads but Ernst Middendorp isn’t one of them.
With Kaizer Chiefs having made a blistering start in the Absa Premiership this season which has seen them leading by 7 points at the top of the log standings going into the Christmas break, one may think a signing or two may be needed to freshen up the squad and ensure there’s enough depth to see them through once the tittle race starts heating up when approaching the business end of the season.
Chiefs recruited Samir Nurkovic, James Kotei, Lazarous Kambole, Kearyn Baccus and Yagan Sasman in the off-season and Middendorp believes he’s got more than enough quality in the squad to compete the entire season.
“We have 7 points in front of [second placed Mamelodi Sundowns],” he started off.
“We have a team that has done in this 5 and half months or 6 months of the season who has done a fantastic job and why should we now be targeting changes,” stated the Chiefs coach.
The German admitted that some players signed by the club have not lived up to expectations while suggesting that it’s hard to find good enough quality players to represent Amakhosi.
“Some players didn’t perform as we were expecting as we have seen it in the season and the next point is let’s be honest where are the players, here in Maritzburg on the Ayrshire street? or on William Nicol streets where are the players really?” questioned the former Maritzburg United coach.
” Let’s be honest, we’ve done some planning and everybody has organised themselves put a team together there’s no need now to run around,” concluded the former Arminia Bielefeld coach.
Amakhosi have been linked with Thabang Monare and Richard Ofori in recent weeks ahead of the January transfer window.
