AmaZulu captain Thapelo Xoki has vowed that they will sweat blood and tears to have their star striker Bongi Ntuli scoop the Absa Premiership top goalscorer’s award come end of the 2019/20 season.
Xoki said that AmaZulu will give Ntuli all the support he needs to claim the much sought after award.
“Ntuli must continue scoring goals. We want him to win the Golden Boot. We have never had a player win the top scorer’s award from the KwaZulu Natal teams. So it would be a good thing for us as a club. We will even give him penalties.
“He must score. He is our top man. If he scores, it’s good for us and it’s good for him. He could get a national team recognition. We help each other anyway we can. We will support him all the way, “Xoki said.
Ntuli has scored 10 of the Usuthu’s league goals in 18 matches this season. He jointly tops the charts with Orlando Pirates’ red hot marksman Gabadinho Mhango, who has 11.
Although Xoki said KZN teams have not produced a top goal scorer but records show that the late Richard Henyane scooped it after hitting the net 19 times while in the colours of Lamontville Golden Arrows in 2008/2009.
Before that, AmaZulu’s Jackie Ledwana was crowned king of goals after netting on 14 occasions back in the 2003/2004 season.
Usuthu is still languishing in a dreaded relegation battle under tutelage of Serbian mentor Josef Vukusic. For AmaZulu to survive, they would need all their big players to come to the party.
Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates striker Lehlohonolo Majoro is yet to find the back of the net for Usuthu this season.
“Other strikers are also pushing. We are trying by all means to help him. The guys are trying to make sure that they score goals but we have been unfortunate,” added Xoki.
