Pule Mmodi’s brace saw Golden Arrows defeat Orlando Pirates 2-0 in a DStv Premiership match played at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont on Tuesday evening.
It was Arrows’ first win over Pirates in the league since 2017.
Mmodi put ‘Abafana Bes’thende’ ahead in the 39th minute before completing his brace with a composed finish 20 minutes into the second half to seal all the three points for his side.
Arrows have now claimed 18 points from eight home matches this season, and they are unbeaten as hosts through the 2020/21 campaign.
Pirates had an opportunity to come back into the game but Thembinkosi Lorch missed a penalty in the 60th minute – putting his effort way over the bar from the mark.
As a result of today’s defeat away from home, the Soweto’s giants four-match unbeaten came to an end as Josef Zinnbauer men’s continue to struggle for some consistency.
Mmodi walked away with the Man of the Man award for his two goals as Arrows jump to fourth place on the log standings with 25 points after 14 matches, while Pirates drop to fifth spot with the same number of points but with an inferior goal difference.
Meanwhile, earlier on, AmaZulu FC claimed a thrilling 4-3 win over Bloemfontein Celtic in a league encounter at Jonsson Kings Park Stadium in Durban.
Tapelo Xoki scored a free-kick deep in stoppage time as ‘Usuthu’ registered their third straight win in the league.
