Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says that Nicolas Pepe’s behaviour is uncalled for after the Ivorian international was sent off in their goalless draw against Leeds United this past Sunday at Elland Road Stadium.
Pepe was red-carded in the 51st minute of the game as he headbutted Leeds defender Ezgjan Alioski in an off-the-ball incident.
The draw takes the Gunners up to the 11th position with 13 points. However, the Spanish mentor was still visibly annoyed after the game at how Pepe had left his team-mates in the lurch.
“It’s unacceptable,” Arteta said, in a post-match interview as he refused to elaborate further.
A fortnight ago, the Ivorian international told the French TV channel Canal Plus that he’s not pleased with his lack of game time under the tutelage of Arteta at Arsenal.
The 25-year-old played his second Premier League start of the season but it succumbed to a premature ending as he failed to take his chance to gain his mentor’s trust by receiving a red card.
Mikel Arteta’s side will welcome Wolves at Emirates Stadium in their next league clash on 29 November 2020.
