Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has singled out winger Bukayo Saka for his Man of the Match performance in Arsenal’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Brighton Hove and Albion on Tuesday night.

The ‘Gunners’ got a second straight win in the English Premier League for the first time in months. Saka assisted Alexandra Lacazette’s 66th minute strike which proved to be enough to hand Mikel Arteta’s charges maximum points away from home. The 19-year-old has been very instrumental for the London-based club this season and he has featured in 14 of the 16 games played so far. He lasted 81 minutes before being replaced by Spaniard Dani Ceballos who came in and tidied things up for Arsenal who moved up to 13th spot on the log with 29 points.

On Boxing Day, the attacker scored the third goal as Arsenal dispatched Chelsea 31 at the Emirates Stadium and again he was the difference against a struggling Brighton. Speaking to the media on Thursday, Arteta praised the teenager’s courage during the difficult times the ‘Gunners’ faced in the league “For me, the biggest thing that he’s done in the past few months is the personality that he plays with and the responsibility he takes,” said the Arsenal boss.

“Also, the decisions he’s willing to make when things are not going well and the impact he has had on the team to get results. That’s in his nature and he wants to evolve that. You can see his team-mates trust him, they still want to give him that responsibility and that’s great. He’s a great example to any young player to play with that commitment, that passion but as well, with that courage you need when you play for a big team,” he added.

The Academy product limped off with an ankle knock on Tuesday, but the coach is confident that he will be fit ahead of the away trip to newly promoted West Bromwich Albion on Saturday “I hope he’s available. We will see with training today. He’s played a lot of minutes as well. I am confident that he will be OK for the game,” he concluded.
