Arsenal’s nominees for the February Player of the Month have been revealed.
Two of Africa’s top talents have made the top four nominees after the fans voted.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe have made the list alongside Granit Xhaka and rising star, Bukayo Saka.
Saka is chasing a hat-trick of awards after winning the December and January awards already. The teenager claimed an assist in the win against Leeds United before scoring the equaliser against Benfica in the first leg of the Uefa Europa Europa. To wrap up the month, he set up two goals in the reverse fixture in Athens, including the late winner scored by Aubameyang.
Second on the list is Aubameyang, the captain scored a superb hat-trick against Leeds, and also netted twice against Benfica in the Europa League second leg in Athens, one of which was an 87th minute winner to send the Gunners to the next round.
Meanwhile, Pepe’s resurgence continued this month.
The Ivorian has impressed on both wings, scoring in Arsenal’s defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers and then he played an important role against Leicester City as he won a penalty and also scored the all-important third goal to give the London side all three points.
Last, but not least, it’s the hard-tackling, Granit Xhaka. The Swiss midfielder has been a rock in midfield throughout February and played a key role in the victories against Leeds United, Benfica and Leicester City.
Arsenal has been drawn against Greek giants Olympiacos in the round of 16 of the Europa League. They will look to continue climbing up the Premier League table when they travel to Burnley in the league on Saturday afternoon.
Mikel Arteta’s side is 10th on the log with 37 points from 26 games.
They have turned the corner in recent months with the front line finding the back of the net more frequently.
Aubameyang and Pepe have come back from a difficult period of a lack of goals.
