Aubameyang makes Odegaard promise

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has vowed to convince Martin Odegaard to make his stay with the Gunners permanent at the end of the season.

The Norwegian playmaker swapped the Bernabeu for the Emirates Stadium in the January window and he has delivered a string of fine performances recently, notably scoring against both Tottenham (Premier League) and Olympiacos in the Uefa Europa League last 16.

Odegaard’s stay at the Emirates is set to expire at the end of the season and Arsenal did not manage to include a buy option in the deal.

The Gunners captain has promised fans that he will try to speak to the 22-year-old playmaker to sign a permanent deal with the club.

Since his arrival at the club, Odegaard has seemingly blended in with the rest of the squad and he was recently quoted saying he feels at home under coach Mikel Arteta. The skipper was asked to talk to the Norwegian playmaker to stay and he promised to oblige.

“Can I tell Odegaard to sign, definitely yeah, I will ask him!,” said Aubameyang.

On the other hand, Odegaard has found first team opportunities hard to come by at Real Madrid under Frenchman Zinedine Zidane and he has made no secret of the fact that he wants to play regular first team football.

Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, the playmaker said a decision will have to be made at the end of the season about his future.

“I haven’t thought about what’ll happen in summer. The deal with Arsenal is until the end of season. We’ll see what happens this summer.

“I’ve said things before that I still stand for, stability and development are key words.”

Real Madrid are expected to demand an amount of 40 million Euros for Odegaard if they do decide to sell him and Arsenal will not be his only suitors, with the likes of Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund also linked with rival offers.

Since arriving in England, he has played 12 games in all competitions this season netting one goal in the league and another in the Europa League.

After the international break, Arsenal host Liverpool in the Premier League and the midfielder is expected to play a significant role to help the Gunners finish the season stronger.
