Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Serge Aurier is back in contention for a place in the squad to face Chelsea on Thursday night.
The Ivorian defender has been training with the club’s reserve team since reportedly storming out of the stadium during Tottenham Hotspurs’ 3-1 loss against Liverpool last week.
When asked about the right back’s absence in the squad that took on Brighton and Hove Albion, a rather displeased Mourihno gave a quick response saying that it’s not an injury that kept him out, but now it seems the coach will let bygones be bygones.
Speaking to the press before the encounter against their London rivals Chelsea on Thursday evening, the Portuguese tactician revealed that the former Paris Saint-Germain full back is back in the team and will be included in the squad for the London derby.
“Yeah, yes Serge is fine. He’s the only player back to the group. He’s the only one so it’s Alfie Devine that leaves the group.
“In spite of working with us, he and Dane Scarlett now they work with us every day, now they go back to the academy to play, in this case Devine will not be involved because Serge will occupy his place in the squad.”
Spurs has lost their previous two encounters in the Premier League and will look to get back to winning ways at their own back yard. The London side is currently in 7th spot on the log with 33 points from 20 games.
Chelsea is in 8th spot with the same number of points, but an inferior goal difference.
Chelsea will be looking to build momentum from last Sunday’s 2-0 victory against Burnley and their new coach Thomas Tuchel will be eager to continue his influence at the former English champions. He arrived recently after leaving PSG who are now under the mentorship of former Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino.
