Andre Ayew has provided an injury update after limping off in Ghana’s 3-1 win against Sao Tome ePrincipe on Sunday night.
The 31-year-old returned to the starting line-up after missing out on the first game against South Africa in Johannesburg on Thursday. Ghana drew 1-1 with Bafana Bafana before defeating Sao Tome in Accra.
Goals from Nicolas Opoku, Jordan Ayew and Baba Rahman ensured that the Black Stars booked their spot in Cameroon next year.
He is expected to return to action on Thursday when Swansea resume league action. The Swans take on Birmingham City in the English Championship and many fans expressed concern over the availability of the attacker for that game.
Speaking to the media after the victory on Sunday evening, Ayew said it’s a minor issue and he will be fine.
“It’s a knock. The doctors have seen it. I can put my leg on the floor. There won’t be any issue.”
Swansea City are in the race for promotion back to the Premier League and the former Olympique Marseille star has played a big role so far. He has netted 14 goals in 36 appearances in the Championship.
He continued to congratulate the team for qualifying to the continental showpiece. “I want to congratulate the whole squad for qualifying.
“In our country, because we are used to qualifying, we see it as a formality.
“We have to very proud and happy with what we and the coaching staff have done.”
Ghana finished as Group C winners after amassing 13 points and qualifying alongside Sudan who mastered a 2-0 win over South Africa in Omdurman.
South Africa finished third with 10 points while the group whipping boys Sao Tome finished at the bottom of the standings with no point from the six games played.
