Bafana Bafana are through to the final of the 2021 Cosafa Cup after defeating Mozambique 3-0 in the semi-finals at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Friday evening.
With both sides vying for a spot in the final, the game had a cautious start, as Mozambique were unable to create any clear opportunities from their considerable possession.
However, Bafana began to find something of a foothold in the match.
Twenty-three minutes elapsed before the host nation could find an opener.
South Africa claimed the lead in the 24th minute of the encounter through the 2020/21 PSL Defender of the Year, Njabulo Ngcobo.
Morena Ramoreboli’s troops weathered a spirited second half domination, with the Mambas looking for the ball all over with a torch.
Bafana went searching for a second goal of the day and it duly arrived in the 59th minute from the in-form Yusuf Maart, who won back to back Man of the Match accolades.
The hosts’ joy continued when Bafana were awarded a penalty. The spot-kick was awarded after Victor Letsoalo was put on the ground in the 18 area. He [Letsoalo] stood up to convert the penalty in 73rd minute.
As it stands, Bafana will take on Senegal in the finals of this tournament on Sunday, 18 July at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
The game will start at 17:00 in the evening.
