Banyana Banyana’s quest to tighten their grip on top of Group A in the 2021 Cosafa Women’s Championship has been halted by Angola at the Nelson Mandela University Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Both teams settled for a goalless draw in an eventful showdown.
The Angolan side dominated large parts of the half, but they were unable to find a way past Banyana goalkeeper Kaylin Swart.
As the first period progressed, the contest became very physical with Desiree Ellis’ troops creating a few opportunities but finding it hard to break the visitors’ defence.
The host nation’s first chance fell to Noxolo Cesane, with the 20-year-old midfielder’s effort from distance was saved by Signori Antonio.
In the closing stages of the half, Banyana had more clear-cut chances to break the deadlock, however, it was never meant to be.
The showpiece went into the halftime break with nothing to separate the both sides.
But the second half was a much more open affair.
In the 48th minute, Melinda Kgadiete came close to putting Banyana in the lead but her shot was blocked.
Angola offered nothing as an attacking force in an open play of the second stanza.
The final whistle blown with Banyana standing firm to claim a point as they remain top of Group A with four points from two outings, just a point ahead of second placed Malawi.
