Banyana Banyana star Thembi Kgatlana has joined Spanish giants Atletico Madrid from SD Eibar, on a deal running until 2023, the club announced on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old moves to Atletico following her impressive performances in the colours of SD Eibar last season scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists in 21 appearances to ensure that the newly-promoted outfit Eibar avoided the axe.
Kgatlana has also had stints with Houston Dash in America, Beijing Phoenix, Portuguese side Benfica and she will now reinforce the Rojiblanco attack.
“Kgatlana is a new Atlético de Madrid Femenino player until 2023. The South African player, international for her country is one of the main promises of South African football,” reads the club statement.
The talented and skillful winger has earned over 50 international caps for Banyana and was named Caf Women’s Player of the Year in 2018.
“I am very happy to arrive at Atlético de Madrid. As a soccer player you always dream of playing in the best clubs,” said Kgatlana.
“My first goal is to be a team player and work hard for the team. I’m very happy to be able to join you soon, I can’t wait to meet you all.”
