Banyana Banyana’s inseperable ‘twins’

The names Thembi Kgatlana and Linda Mothlalo have become familiar to many South African soccer fans with the Banyana Banyana duo becoming a rather inseparable combination over the years.
The pair took the national team by storm with their unstoppable combination play and understanding during games and they have stuck together even at club level in the past few years which makes their combination a very special one.
In the national team, Motlhalo and Kgatlana wear jersey number 10 and 11 respectively, and those same jersey numbers are what they also chose at club level.
The duo first moved from South Africa to the American league and that is perhaps undoubtedly one of the most competitive football leagues in the world, as they joined Houston Dash with their national team captain Janine Van Wyk also playing for the same team.
This new South African heavy presence started to benefit the club with the two attackers combining very well scoring and assisting goals and the understanding they had from playing together at home played a big role in this.
After the 2018 Africa Cup of Nations where South Africa qualified for the World Cup for the first time in history, the South Africans left their American club before this year’s World Cup in France where they were soon to make their debut at the tournament.
They switched to Chinese club Beijing BG Phoenix and the inseparable twins took that opportunity with both hands to go play at the Chinese top division where they made an instant impact as they did in America scoring and assisting goals almost every second game.
The south African duo continues to do very well in the league with Kgatlana recently scoring in Phoenix’s recent 1-1 draw with Guangdong Meizhou Huijun this past weekend to continue a good run of form she has been having.
We will keep track of the progress of the ‘twins’ and hopefully they continue flying the South African flag high overseas.
