Barcelona are looking to make their intentions ‘clear’ with regards to youngster Ansu Fati amid supposed interest from some of the continent’s wealthiest, and are looking to sit down with the teenager’s representatives over a new deal which could include a €300m release clause.
The teenager only signed a new contract with Barça back in December of 2019, with a new release clause set at €170m. Despite this, reports began to emerge that Manchester United were showing a keen interest in Fati as his opportunities became limited earlier in the season.
In fact, it was even claimed the Red Devils had offered up to €150m for his services.
Sport now report that Man Utd’s interest in Fati is ‘real’, while the Premier League outfit are in a position to make an ‘astronomical’ offer to bring him to Old Trafford. However, crucially, only ‘verbal offers’ have been made so far – but Barça are still taking the matter very seriously.
As a result, La Blaugrana are looking to tie him down to a new and improved deal despite their current financial problems, as they look to make their intentions clear. In this new contract, Barcelona hope to raise his release clause to €300m.
When Fati was struggling for opportunities earlier in the season, interest in him grew and his agent Jorge Mendes even asked the club how much they were looking for in order to let him leave. Borussia Dortmund are also said to have contacted the club as they looked to either bring Fati in on loan or on a permanent basis.
Barça, however, were adamant Fati would be given more chances in the not too distant future – which has proven to be the case.
Despite Barcelona’s financial situation, they are working hard on a new deal and hope to officially announce it after the 2019/20 season is completed.
