Spanish League giants Barcelona are set to elect a new president on 24 January 2021, the club said in an officail statement.
This comes after chief Josep Maria Bartomeu tendered his resignation in October this year.
The Managing Commission met on the 30th of November 2020 in an ordinary session and has deliberated on a way forward to hold the club elections, following weeks of negotiations.
The Managing Commission and the Catalan Government reached an agreement that the 24th of January 2021 will be the day for the holding of the club’s elections to the Presidency, and preparations have continued to move forward with regards to the event.
“The week of 14 December is marked as the beginning of the election calendar, of which more details will be released when necessary. In advance news, on Monday 14 December a meeting of the Managing Commission is planned to approve the calling of elections; Wednesday 16, the official publication of the calling of elections.
As such, between 23 December and 11 January there would be a period for the collection of supporting signatures; between 15 and 22 January, the election campaign,” Barcelona stated in a statement.
The electoral college votes will be held at Barcelona, at Camp Nou, in Tarragona, Tortosa, Lleida, Girona and Andorra. The club added that outside Catalonia they will present in Madrid, Sevilla, Valencia and Palma de Mallorca.
However, the precise details of the different voting points will be finalised in the coming days as well as the specific protocols for each. A review of the final protocols and locations will be made.
It was further said that, in the case of the locations outside Catalonia, the necessary steps are being taken to guarantee adaptation to the current health situation and the legal situation in each region. In this task, the Club can count on the help of the Sports High Council, the Spanish Football Federation and the Catalan Football Federation
The club noted that the Managing Commission considers this to be a great step on the road to dealing with the extraordinary circumstances in which the organisation finds itself due to the global pandemic which has affected everyone since March of this year.
