South Africa’s U20 Women’s national team got the better of Mozambique in the first leg of the Fifa 2022 Women’s World Cup qualifiers out in Maputo on Thursday afternoon.
Basetsana defeated neighbours Mozambique 1-0, thanks to Zethembiso Vilakazi’s 37th minute solo goal.
Jabulile Baloyi’s side arrived in Maputo on Monday, 20 September where they continued their preparations for their first competitive match in almost two years of inactivity due to the covid-19 pandemic.
The Basetsana squad was mainly made of the U17 national team, who had graduated to the U20 Women’s national team.
The second leg will be played on 8 October at Dobsonville Stadium.
